About
Hi there,
I'm Fay.
Chinese by blood, Dutch by upbringing.
Third culture kid.
Global feminist.
Engineer by education, aspiring entrepreneur at heart.
Passionate about sustainability, surfing and saving the world, i.e. humanity.
Only kind of joking there.
I'm also a survivor of childhood trauma and really do want to make the world a better place. All I need to do is figure out how. While I'm at it, I thought I might as well share some stories along the way.
This blog is about my journey from growing up in Shanghai, to studying in Delft, to interning in San Francisco, to starting a software engineering program in Lisbon and beyond.
Who am I
- Born in 1996 in Shanghai, China
- 2006: Started making pencil holders out of aluminium cans and wallets out of plastic bags.
- 2008: Found out about the prevalence of modern day slavery and designed t-shirts to raise awareness for modern day slavery.
- 2012: Started a project called You Should Know to raise awareness for global issues that are often overlooked such as food waste, e-waste & water pollution.
- 2014: Moved to Delft to study mechanical engineering with the idea that I was going to clean up factories.
- 2016: Spent 3 months working with waste pickers in Bangalore trying to improve their waste sorting process and fell in love with materials & waste.
- 2017: Went back to Shanghai for an exchange semester as I started my first master's in Materials Science Engineering.
